Poison-free LED light bulbs arrive in Australia
An award-winning LED lighting technology that is up to 85% cheaper to run and safer than incandescent light bulbs and compact fluorescent lamps has been introduced in Australia.
The environmentally friendly LED light bulbs come in 15 different shapes and sizes and contain no harmful mercury.
A major report from US Federal Environment Agency president Jochen Flasbarth found that: “The presence of mercury is the downside to energy-saving lamps. The positive and necessary energy savings of up to 80 per cent as compared with light bulbs must go hand in hand with a safe product that poses no risks to health.Existing optical-fiber technology is マジコンds inefficient at transmitting infrared light. However, the zinc selenide optical fibers that Badding's team developed are able to transmit the longer wavelengths of infrared light. "Exploiting these wavelengths is exciting because it represents a step toward making fibers that can serve as infrared lasers," Badding explained.”
