Stumping for the city council

At a Monday workshop meeting, the council approved a project to switch all traffic signals to energy-efficient LED lighting assisted by federal money obtained with the help of U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson, D-Crete.This also ensures that the product can be used at home or in a retail LED bulb environment and it is fair to say that shops can reap the benefits from using this type of light too.

Gideon Blustein, Halvorson’s chief of staff, talked a bit about LED lighting but dwelled more on a defense of the Obama administration and the Democratic Party’s efforts in Congress to boost the economy with stimulus funding.

“Because of decisive action taken by Congress and our president,Multiply that by 6 fixtures and we'll be buying 300 bulbs! If the cost per bulb averages $2 we'll end up paying an led lamp additional $600 for a grand total of $2,550 to run six incandescent lights. we averted financial disaster,” Blustein said at one point.Experts also suggest using low Projector Lamp voltage fluorescent mini lights.

Not only that, but the LED lights are brighter than standard traffic lights.

Out of order

Then came Robert Iuffues Webb, city council gadfly and occasional mayoral candidate, to discuss concerns about police activity and parking restrictions on certain streets during the residents’ comments time

But first Webb announced he will be a candidate in the April 5 election for mayor.

“You’re out of order,” Councilman Thomas Giarrante, also a mayoral candidate, snapped at Webb,The Led lamp light you purchase will be made up of two main components, apart from the bulb of course. These are known as the trim and the housing. The trim is the visible part of the light. who proceeded on to other business.

Sneak preview

No one cut Councilman Warren Dorris short the next day at the regular council meeting as he announced he would not seek re-election in District 5 in April, reminisced about his 24 years as councilman, and said he was likely to have an announcement in a few weeks about his political future.

That likely means Dorris will run for mayor. He did not mention the M word during his public comments, but later acknowledged that was what he was talking about.

“I’m getting a groundswell of people telling me to run,” he said.

Health and Death

Adam Kinzinger and U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson, foes in the 11th Congressional District race, continue to contest whether she had town meetings on the health care bill before it was passed.Ensuring that the low voltage downlight compact fluorescent fits in with the style and decor of the rest of the room is very important and in years gone by, this would not have been possible.

Not having those meetings — at least not having enough of them — stirred up opposition to Halvorson, especially from folks who don’t like the Obama health care plan.

Kinzinger doesn’t like it either and wants it repealed. One thing he says he hasn’t found in the bill, however, are the infamous “death panels” described by Sarah Palin. Kinzinger said he would say so at the town meetings he had on health care and was always treated civilly: “I would say, ‘Guys, to be honest with you, I don’t think there are death panels in the bill.’”
